One of the things I love most in the world is being able to look at something and be able to say 'I made that' with pride. This dress was for my textiles GCSE, based around the theme 'Swinging Sixties'. The monochromatic blocks were influenced by Mary Quant and the peace symbols reference the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament during the 1960s.
You can't really see from the pictures, but the peace symbols are made from appliqued fabric on some of which are star studs, on some are sequins and some are hand painted with beads on. Absolutely everything went wrong at least once (at least) during the process of making it, but it turned out alright in the end!
I got my lovely friend Leilah to model my dress for me, and it was so fun being her photographer! I used black and white to give a vintage feel and add to the monochromatic theme.
Thank you for being such a brilliant model for me Leilah!

ReplyDeleteOh wow, I can't believe you made that! It turned out really excellent. It's interesting to learn the history behind the peace sign - what it actually stood for in the '60s. Love the black and white effect as well!
